Hobbies

I enjoy teaching and consider education to be a life-long endeavor, a journey that goes on forever leading to personal fulfillment. I have a strong interest in the students as individuals and demonstrate high sensitivity to subtle messages from them regarding the way they feel about the material or its presentation, the impact on the students is very positive. Students feel I know who they are and care about them and their learning. In this way, the students become highly motivated to do their best, in part so as not to disappoint the teacher. Good interpersonal rapport is evidenced when I acknowledge students’ feelings about matters of class assignments, activities, or policy, and encourage students to ask questions and/or express their personal viewpoints. Effective facilitation occurs when I encourage students to be creative and independent in dealing with the subject material to formulate their own views. As a result, students not only know what I expect of them, but also feel more responsibility to go beyond that level of performance. I structure my activities for student involvement. I assist them by asking questions and encouraging them to contribute their ideas rather than by lecturing to them. I continually build on student responses so that the entire class is being encouraged to use their critical thinking skills to evaluate and analyze the information. I establish a welcoming tone in my classroom. I offer examples to bridge the gap between theory and application, and I encourage students to participate in class discussions. I avoid conflicts by identifying key areas of concern for students and resolve conflicts without bias or disrespect. Finally, I coach and mentor students to enable them to succeed in meeting the class requirements.
